WWII USN N-3 HBT UTILITY JACKET
WWII USN N-3 HBT UTILITY JACKET
Rare, WWII era (1943-45) herringbone twill United States Navy N-3 utility jacket. The design is virtually identical to the USMC P-41 with a few slight differences including 8.5 oz. HBT material in darker olive drab shade 7 instead of the lighter colored 9 oz. material used by the Marine Corp for their utility uniforms. Other differences include the laurel wreath & star buttons and the identifying “USN” ink stamp instead of the “USMC” heat transfer used by the Marines. Many of these jackets appear with very faint or nonexistent (as in the case of this piece) “USN” stampings on the breast pocket. The ink stamping was often applied very lightly in contrast to the much clearer result produced by the heat transfer method used by the USMC for their markings.
